Physical Culture and the Body Beautiful: Purposive Exercise in the Lives of American Women 1800-1870
Published in Hardcover by Mercer University Press (September, 1998)
Author: Jan Todd
Average review score:

literally, an "instant classic"
This book is, literally, an "instant classic." That's because it take modern scholarly methods and applies them to a subject area that's been uncovered until now. Todd's book is actually not esoteric at all, but deeply relevant to anyone interested either in 19th Century America or physical culture history. Her research is thorough and her writing is smooth and easy to take. While the book's tone is serious, it isn't stuffy and boring like so many academic works. This book is superb, important, and even fun!

Great book for sport history/women's studies
Todd has presented a new vision for women's exercise in the ealry 19th century. Her research is impressive and her findings illuminate an aspect of women's lives that historians have here-to-fore ignored. Great book for women's studies classes/or body culture classes.

Road To Debt Freedom: An Essential Guide to Managing, Understanding, and Eliminating Debt
Published in Paperback by American Literary Press (September, 2000)
Authors: S. Todd Cook and Michael A Kiefer
Average review score:

Excellent Self-Help Book
I came across Road To Debt Freedom at one of my friends home. After glancing through it for a while I decided to purchase the book a few days later. Being embarrassed about my credit card bills and overall financial picture I decided to take matters into my own hands. This book provided me with many chapters of useful information while being easy to read and understand. It's very rare for people these days take the time to say good job for something well done. Good Job!

A step-by-step guide to financial security and debt freedom!
Being in the debt management and credit counseling industry, we read a tremendous number of related books and articles. Every once in a while we come across an outstanding work of art that merits special attention. Road To Debt Freedom ranks at the upper echelon in this category!

The 144 page paperback covers virtually every aspect of managing, understanding and eliminating debt. Reading the book cover to cover, I was personally captivated with the style of writing and the handling of each subject matter. Also impressive was the authors' use of analogies which distinctively paints a vivid picture, especially in areas of finance which consumers often find confusing.

While this book is a MUST read for anyone burdened with debt, if so empowered, I would make it mandatory reading before anyone was granted credit. - Daniel Gelinas, The Center For Debt Management™

A Sacrificial Zinc (Lena-Miles Wever Todd Poetry Series)
Published in Paperback by Louisiana State University Press (December, 2001)
Author: Matthew Cooperman
Average review score:

I, Loser
(...) It rocks. It's brilliant and lovely and funny and crazy all at once. Cooperman writes like Whitman would write if Whitman were alive today. You just can't get much better than that. I'm amazed that this is a first book.

Matthew Cooperman Is A Swell Poet
Matthew "Coop" Cooperman's debut is gorgeously phrased, elliptically elliptical, and filled with more numinous viscera than most contemporary (yawn) poets can conjure in three books.
His poetry appeals to the following tantric poetry receptacles: head, gut, heart, crotch, ear, and feet, i.e. its better than corned beef hash, skippy. I recommend this for any fan of contemporary poetry, and especially to young, aspiring poets who are not yet very good and need helpful models to teach them how to write good complete and/or broken sentences. This book is imbued with a wise spirit, linguisticly rabid numinousness, and things. Read it.

Spawn, Book 5: Death and Rebirth
Published in Paperback by Todd McFarlane Productions (01 November, 1999)
Authors: Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo
Average review score:

A first taste of Spawn books
I've never read a Spawn book before, but after reading Spawn 5 I'm going to read them all!

I enjoyed the level of depth that that the writers used and how they left me hanging at the end because the odd man-who-was-changed-into-a-demon is helped by Spawn.

I really like the level of artistry that the Spawn books have. Many of Marvel's books are black and white and I HATE THAT! We got rid of black and white tv LONG AGO and black and white comics before that, WHY would we go back to black and white comics? Sorry, yes I think you should buy Spawn 5, and I recommend it for it's level of character and story depth and high standard of artistry.

Good
Buy this book it was grea

Starting with Shakespeare: Successfully Introducing Shakespeare to Children
Published in Paperback by Libraries Unlimited (March, 2000)
Authors: Pauline Nelson and Todd Daubert
Average review score:

A superb addition to a Shakespeare reference collection.
Starting With Shakespeare: Successfully Introducing Shakespeare To Children introduces students in grades K through 5 to "A Midsummer Night's Dream"; "Macbeth"; "Hamlet"; and "Romeo and Juliet". For each play, a complete historical background, introduction to the characters, and a simple retelling of the story is provided. A variety of integrated activities extend learning to history, geography, science, art, music, movement, math, and language arts. In addition, Starting With Shakespeare is enhanced with verses for memorization, a complete script for class performance, and a list of resources for further explorations and studies. Starting With Shakespeare is a superb addition to any school literary studies and theatrical studies reference library.

not just for little kids
I am a special education teacher in a middle school and I have used this book to bring the incredible stories of Shakespeare to my students. The activities were easily modified to meet the needs of older students, and I especially enjoyed the retellings of the plays since they contained debate and discussion questions. The students I teach were highly motivated to learn Shakespeare in this interactive way. This book makes Shakespeare accessible to everyone, not just the "highly gifted." My students will never forget the year we brought Romeo and Juliet to life. Now they are able follow the story line, understand the characters, and compare the play to West Side Story in the mainstream classroom. Amazing!

Predictions for the Next Millennium: Thoughts on the 1,000 Years Ahead from Today's Celebrities
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (November, 1998)
Authors: David Kristof and Todd W. Nickerson
Average review score:

Not worth the $ it's going for
This book is completely useless and has no entertainment value whatsoever. Correction, every once in a while, when we're sitting in the office trying to decide what to do with the book, we open it for some piece of trite wisdom from actors, authors, scholars, and politicians. Of all the quotes, only the actors seem capable of putting together coherent thoughts. The rest spout off psuedo futurist predictions that aren't worth the time to understand. And for God's sake, DO NOT BUY this book for a friend unless you want them to have a hard time trying to return it for $. Frankly I'm dissapointed that I have to give this any stars at all.

An impressive list of contributors with meaningful messages.
This book is surprisingly interesting. With contributions from space pioneers, world leaders, politicians, entertainers, cultural icons, sports figures, and Nobel laureates, the book serves both as a collection of the here and now (who we are, culturally, at the end of this millennium), as well as a springboard for dreams of where we are going. From the manager of the Mars exploration program's prediction of the imminent discovery of past life on Mars, to Joan River's humorous "interest rates will be higher and my breasts will be lower," reading this book is a lot of fun. Contributors include Ed Asner, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Arthur C. Clarke, The Dalai Lama, Marlin Fitzwater, George Gallup, George Harrison, Garry Kasparov, Norman Leer, Robert McNamara, Scott O'Grady, Richard Pryor, Norm Schwarzkopf, Desmond Tutu, Earl Weaver, Chuck Yeager, and many more. A fun read, a worthy keepsake to commemorate the turn of the century/millennium, and a great gift book, too.

A surprisingly good approach to the Millennium theme
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Rather than a corny collection of predictions from self declared psychics, these celebrities actually offer intelligent and interesting ideas about the future and are generally pretty humble in their views. Some are betterr than others, but hats off to the editors for putting together such a diverse group of names and not just pandering to Hollywood and sports figures. Many seem to be statements about mankind and not just rattling off specific events ( although some of those are pretty scary, like Bob McNamara"s). The James Michener message is worth the price of the book alone, and how they got Gore Vidal and Arthur C Clarke all within the same cover is a book lovers dream. I think the scientists and astronauts are the best, but was surprised at how profound many of the movie stars can also be. I do hope this book is a trend for the millennium reading we will be seeing next year, but I doubt most of the stuff will be as sincere or interesting as this little book turns out to be.
